This is absolutely insane. I don’t even know where to start.
I just got a new CD, one I’ve been interested in for a while but haven’t gotten around to purchasing until this year’s Christmas shopping has had me in and out of Amazon. I wish I’d bought it a million years ago. This is the most amazing thing. This CD has had me practically in a trance, in full-body shivers from beginning to end, and at times in tears. I don’t remember the last time I had this type of reaction to a CD; I may never have had such an intense reaction to a CD.
The album is The String Quartet Tribute to System of a Down. SoaD is my second-favorite group of all time, and orchestral music is my second-favorite type of music. Granted, a string quartet is not quite orchestral, but you can see where this is a damn good combination. And this thing is… I don’t even have words for my feelings here. I am overwhelmed. You can be sure I’ll be picking up the String Quartet Tribute to every other band/artist I love. If they were to do tributes to Rammstein or Three Days Grace, I would fall over dead.
Something this spectacular has to be shared. I don’t know whether anyone will react to this the way I have, but I feel it would be immoral not to offer this to everyone. I think it will be best enjoyed if you are a System of a Down fan already. If you are familiar with the Mezmerize album, grab all the tracks and listen to them in order. If you’d rather pick and choose, I would particularly recommend Radio/Video, Question!, Sad Statue, and Lost in Hollywood. The less melodic songs (i.e. B.Y.O.B., Violent Pornography), obviously, don’t translate as well. Which is not to say that they’re not still fucking awesome.
