So my name has been kuroiyousei for about eight years now. I like the name not only because black is my favorite color (hue!!) and I love faeries, but also because it’s unusual enough that I never have trouble signing up for things using my name and people don’t mistake me for others. But recently I have becoming increasingly aware of somebody calling herself “kuroi-yousei,” even wis the lower-case k like mine, about various places online, and it’s really annoying me. Not that people don’t have the right to call themselves whatever they want, and not that the term “black faery” in Japanese is unlikely to appeal to anyone but me… but I’ve already had two instances of being mistaken for this person, and I’ve been used to having a unique name. I’ve got a freaking domain and a permanent lj account named after myself, among other things. Gah.

I went through the same thing – which is why I had to come up with something other than Seraphfim.
sadness. ♥
I don’t know that I’m not more attached to the uniqueness of my name than to the name itself. However, the domain and the permanent lj outweigh any other consideration, so I’m not changing XD I honestly think I will outlast this other person; I’ve had the name for this long, after all, and have no idea of changing or leaving my spot on the internet any time soon. So I’ll just have to be annoyed for a while.
